Hauwa Umar Aliyu, popularly known as Hauwa Birniwa, hails from Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, within the historic Hadejia Emirate.
She is an accomplished educationist and community-development advocate per excellence whose life has been dedicated to creating opportunities and bringing hope to underserved communities.

She holds a degree in Education from Bayero University Kano (BUK), a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health from AMREF University, Nairobi, and postgraduate studies in Education, Health Promotion and International Development from University College London (UCL). She also holds M.Sc in Sustainable Development from the University of Sussex and is pursuing Doctoral research in International Education and Development.
Hauwa has significant experience working with development partners, including programmes associated with the UK’s former Department for International Development (DFID), particularly in education, health and community development. Her grassroots experience includes working with rural and nomadic/pastoralist communities in Northern Nigeria.
Through the Iya Hauwa Foundation, which she founded, she continues to support and empower rural and nomadic communities through education, healthcare and life-skills development. She has also served in trustee and leadership roles with several development organisations.

Hauwa currently serves as Federal Commissioner representing Jigawa State at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), contributing her experience and capacity to matters concerning fiscal responsibility, revenue mobilisation and equitable resource allocation.
Beyond her professional achievements, Hauwa Umar Aliyu is a woman of vision, compassion, courage and service, a philanthropist and grassroots development advocate who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to uplifting people and creating hope within communities.
