The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has handed over a newly completed infrastructure project to the Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS), Akko Gari, in Gombe State.
The project, which was handed over after certification by the relevant authorities, is aimed at providing a safer and more conducive learning environment for students, particularly adolescent girls.
The handover ceremony was led by the State Project Coordinator of Gombe AGILE, Dr Amina Haruna Abdul, alongside the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of Education.
Speaking during the exercise, the AGILE team said the intervention was part of efforts to improve school infrastructure and create an environment that would encourage girls to remain in school and improve their academic performance.
Learning materials were also distributed to students to complement the infrastructure intervention and support effective teaching and learning.
The School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) and the school community were urged to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance for the benefit of current and future students.
The intervention forms part of AGILE’s broader programme to improve learning environments, strengthen educational outcomes and expand access to quality education for girls across Gombe State.
It also supports the state government’s education reform agenda, which places emphasis on improving school facilities and expanding access to education, particularly for girls.
