The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, 43, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm, when the C-Division Police Station, Bauchi, received information about a domestic altercation between the two women, who lived in the same household as their husband.
This was made known in a press statement issued and signed by the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, to journalists in Bauchi, said preliminary investigation indicated that Haruna, who was allegedly acting under hallucinations, picked up a pestle and struck Adamu on the forehead, causing her to fall unconscious.
Following the report, detectives from the C-Division mobilised to the scene, documented the area and rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, added that a medical doctor later confirmed Adamu dead, while her remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The suspect was subsequently arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the incident was recovered as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The commissioner condoled with the bereaved family and warned against domestic violence. He also advised families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health challenges.
