The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has lauded Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, for his significant and proactive interventions in the state’s media sector.
In a statement jointly issued by the Council’s Chairman, Comrade Isma’il Ibrahim Dutse, and Secretary, Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo, the NUJ commended the Governor for awarding contracts for the upgrade of the Jigawa Broadcasting Corporation and the construction of five new Community FM stations. These initiatives are seen as crucial steps to strengthen Jigawa Radio, enhance technical operations, and improve news gathering and programming for the state-owned station.

The Council also praised Governor Namadi for the recent recruitment of additional personnel at the Ministry of Information, Radio Jigawa, and State Television (JTV).
While acknowledging these positive developments, the NUJ Jigawa State Council appeals to the state government to employ more media personnel to address existing manpower shortages within the sector.
Furthermore, the union emphasized the critical need for regular training and retraining of journalists to keep pace with the rapidly evolving media landscape, particularly in digital journalism, new technologies, and professional ethics. The Council stressed that continuous capacity building is essential for journalists to remain relevant and competitive.
The NUJ urged the state government to join hand with the Union in organizing regular professional development programs for media practitioners in Jigawa State.
