In line with the commitment of the administration of Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi to strengthen the education sector and ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to access quality education, irrespective of gender, socio-economic background or other circumstances.

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the Jigawa State Policy on Gender in Education and its Implementation Guidelines, in a significant step towards promoting inclusive, equitable and quality education for all children across the state.

The policy development, supported by the Jigawa State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, is aimed at addressing socio-cultural barriers that limit access to education, participation, retention and learning outcomes, particularly among girls and other vulnerable groups.

The policy will also provide a framework for addressing harmful socio-cultural practices and other barriers that prevent children, particularly adolescent girls, from attaining their full educational potential. It is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, promote community engagement and encourage greater collaboration among government institutions, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, parents and other stakeholders.
