The lockdown adopted by the federal government aimed at curtailing the spread of coronavirus has immensely contributed in the increase in crimes across the country Jigawa state inclusive, Commissioner of Police, Usman Suale Gomna has stated.
Speaking to Newsmen on the year 2020 achievements recorded by the command, CP Usman Gomna said security agencies police in particular has witnessed increase cases of crimes due to the global pandemic called Covid-19 which resulted in the adoption of lockdown, added that “Year 2020 is unique because Covid-19 pandemic, as a result of lockdown economy was seriously affected, this in turn gave rise to increase in crimes”. he noted.
He explained that the lockdown has enable criminals came out in full force for survival but however thanks God for making Jigawa state one of the safest and peaceful states in the country, stressed that the efforts of the command has yielded fruitful result making it to regained its relative peace during the period under review.
CP Usman Gomna stated further the command has recorded 14-armed robbery suspects and 5 kidnap suspects and recovered 3 AK 47 rifles with 209 rounds of ammunition, it also recovered 9 vehicles and 7 motorcycles, 55 animals and other counterfeit money from suspects, saying police alone cannot handle security issue all hand must be on deck to complement their effort to fight crimes.
He called on people in the state to continue supporting the police with relevant information as well as report any suspicious or strange faces to the command, applauded the support of the community and the state government in discharging its civic responsibilities.
