The Kano State Government has shut down Esmeralda, a patent medicine store, for conducting clinical activities there.
Dr. Usman Tijjani Aliyu, Executive Secretary of the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), said as much in a statement released on Wednesday.
During a raid by the agency task-force, Esmeralda-Pac –Pharm medicals, which is located at Kwanar Tudun Wada in the Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state, was discovered to be conducting clinical activities as a patient was receiving blood transfusion inside the medicine store.
‘’This is a quackery act that violates PHIMA’s laws and guidelines. This would not be tolerated in Kano under Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration, according to Dr. Aliyu.
According to the statement, the agency will work with the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Council to prosecute the wrongdoing patent medicine operator as a deterrent to others.
The agency also raided and shut down two illegal medical laboratories in Bichi town, named Alkhairat Laboratory and Emsabil (annex) Laboratory, near Kafar Gari and Madinka quarters, according to the statement.
The two laboratories were operating illegally, according to the report, and were not registered with the Agency (PHIMA).
‘’In addition, two diagnostic centers in Bichi town, Al- umma scanning center and M & M scanning center, were temporarily shut down for allegedly mismanaging patients.
