As part of its continued efforts to enhance security architecture nationwide, the federal government has announced its plan to establish six naval bases in Kano, Lagos, and Imo among other selected states.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, has on Wednesday disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, said to the effect the Navy Board has already approved the establishment of the base.
Admiral Awwal explained that the base when completed would contribute in the aspect of showcasing the efforts of the Armed forces of Nigeria at keeping the country one indivisible nation.
His words:-“The Naval or Navy Board has approved the establishment of a Naval base in Kano, Lagos, Imo among other bases this administration has planned to open.
“I assure you that the base when establish will contribute to showcasing the effort of the Nigerian Navy for keeping the nation as one indivisible nation”.
The Chief of naval staff commended the Kano state government for allocating 100 hectares of land in Dawakin Tofa where the Naval Base would be established in Kano.
Responding, Governor Ganduje commended the Nigerian Navy for choosing Kano for establishing the Naval base.
“We are very grateful for the choice of Kano to have a Naval Base. This is highly instrumental. It gives us more and more courage to be above board in securing our dear state.”
