Federal government through Home-Grown School Feeding Program (NHGSFP) has disbursed feeding utensils to no fewer than 490 primary school pupils in Jigawa state.
Minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk dropped the hints at the handing over of the feeding utensils to Jigawa state Government to the beneficiaries held at Nuhu Muhammadu Sunusi primary school, Dutse.
Hajiya Sadiya was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Bashir Alkali explained that apart from the recent utensils, the federal government also provided over 400,000 feeding utensils for the use of primary school pupils across 27 local government in the state.
Her words:-“the home-grown school feeding program was aimed at boosting the school enrollment, child nutrition, local economic activities across thousands communities in the country, the program will also provide job to over 5,267 women whom will serve as cooks across 27 local government in the state”.
The Minister explained that, about 2,180 schools benefitted with utensils that consist of plates, cutlery, cooking pots, biscuits and juice in Jigawa.
She further stated that, as part of effort to address gaps in the program, the ministry have commenced deployment of intervention within the program that will identify gaps including a nationwide enumeration exercise across the nation with the objective of verifying the existing data.
The minister applauded the state Governor Badaru Abubakar for his support which resulted to the huge success of the program.
