In the first quarter of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has begun the nationwide display of details of newly registered voters.

The record was displayed at the INEC office in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Karu, according to a NAN correspondent who visited the facility on Saturday.
In an interview with NAN, Ndidi Okafor, Head, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC FCT, revealed that the information was also displayed at INEC offices in five other FCT area councils.
Festus Okoye, the INEC spokesman, stated on Monday in Abuja that Section 19 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) required INEC to disclose the voter register.

Mr. Okoye stated that the provision required the register to be exhibited for a period of no less than five days and no more than fourteen days.
This is done to enable public inspection, during which residents can make claims and objections.
“In accordance with the law, the register of new voters will be exhibited in the commission’s local government offices worldwide from September 24 to September 30″.
“The goal is to enable citizens to assist the commission by identifying ineligible registrants on the list prior to the cleaning up of the register and the issuing of their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for future elections.
“For the avoidance of doubt, ineligible registrants include foreigners and Nigerians under the age of 18.”
Mr. Okoye encouraged Nigerians to help INEC identify multiple registrants and deceased individuals so that their names might be removed from the register.
The commission said that as of Monday at 7 a.m., the number of new online pre-registrants had reached 3,165,189 since the exercise’s commencement on July 28.

According to the national commissioner, the second quarter of the exercise will begin on October 4 and end on December 20.
