A Non-governmental organization, Concern Citizens Project (CPP), has commended the Department of State Security Services (DSS), for its efforts to uncover alleged economic and financial crimes involving the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and former EFCC boss, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The organization made this known in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Abdullahi and sent to HotPen on Friday.
The CCP lauded the DSS for pursuing the investigation into Emefiele, who faces accusations of economic misconduct and was the subject of an ex-parte motion filed by the DSS.
The statement revealed that “Despite facing opposition from certain influential figures reportedly benefiting from Emefiele’s alleged misdeeds, the CCP emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and the need to avoid allowing powerful individuals to evade justice”.
According to the organization, “Emefiele’s connection to a cache of ammunition found at his residence and highlighted the involvement of well-connected individuals in his defense is worrisome”.
The CCP also expressed concern that thwarting the investigation could set a dangerous precedent and undermine the efforts of security agencies, ultimately jeopardizing national security.
They urged Nigerians to support the DSS and its officials in carrying out their constitutional duties and stressed the importance of standing united against corrupt elements.
Additionally, the CCP praised President Tinubu’s appointment of Jim Osayande Obazee, the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), as a Special Investigator to examine the CBN and related entities under Emefiele’s leadership.
The statement indicated hope for similar actions in the case of former EFCC boss, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
