Gusau the capital city of Zamfara state has been thrown into serious acute portable drinking water for the last three weeks.
Investigation by our correspondent gathered that some areas such as government reservation area GRA, Gada Biyu, Birnin Ruwa, Tullukawa, Tudun Wada, Gada Baga, Kan Wuri among others were in serious shortage of water due to non pumping of the water by the state water board for the last three weeks.
Finding by our correspondent gathered that 25 litres of water has now been selling at the cost of N100 by the water vendors instead of N50 Naira .
Investigation conducted by this medium gathered that many children were seen early in the morning on daily basis searching for water every nooks and crannies since the beginning of the problem.
In an interview with our correspondent, resident of Hayin Malam Sani area identified as Malam Yunusa Garba described the development as devastating.
According to him, six of his children were stop attending school for the past two weeks because of the water shortage in the area.
“My children used to go out every morning to look for water for our daily need but will not come back until after 9:00am so there is no way for them to go to school all this while”. He said.
He appealed to Zamfara state government to look into the matter and find lasting solution of this challenge.
However, our correspondent visited the state water board to verify the reports that the staff of the board declined comment as the managing director of the board was said to have traveled to Abuja for an official engagement.
