The JIgawa state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has ignored the state police commissioner’s order stopping them from going around street in the name of nationwide protest scheduled to hold across 36 states of the federation.
The organization labour union had ignored the police commissioner order which was released in early hours of Tuesday banning the protesters (workers) to match on the street, but limited the protest within their secretariat situated along Ibrahim Aliyu bye pass in the state capital.
The Jigawa NLC under the chairmanship of Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari converged at the central el-id ground where they walked for about two kilometers and terminated at the state NLC secretariat.
Addressing the crowd, Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari expressed dismay over the delay by the state government in the prompt payment of wage award to workers in the state.
Comrade Sunusi Maigari added that “JIgawa NLC is still on its decision taken during its executive council meeting that the N10,000 far month for three months to workers will not be acceptable.
He also called on the state government to ensure the full implementation of all agreements reach during negotiation that the N10,000 for six months not three months.
Comrade Maigari also added that “the NLC Jigawa State Council wish to join the entire workers and masses of Nigeria to show
displeasure with the state of affairs of our dear country Nigeria and draw the attention of the government to honour all agreement with the organized labour earlier reached
“The government should fix our refineries, stop the Naira devaluation, end hunger and poverty reject IMF/World Bank policies, end hunger and poverty support local industries, end of insecurity, create jobs and economic prosperity”.
The police commissioner, Mr Ahmed T Abdullahi earlier ordered the organize labour union to limited it’s protest within the NLC secretariat not match in the streets of the city.
Mr Ahmed T Abdullahi’s order was contained in a statement issued signed and made available to newsmen in Dutse by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adam.
According to the statement “the CP pleaded with the NLC leaders to consider the interest of the state and the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by the people across the state not be on street”.
The statement further stated that “the CP warned them not to be on the street but rather, they should converge in their secretariat, address the press, express their grievances, and disperse to their various destinations”.
The CP threatened that any breach of the peace will encounter the state during the so-called nationwide peaceful demonstration, and the leadership of NLC will be held responsible.
“Any attempt by criminal elements or groups of criminals to take advantage of these processions will be met with every humane response within the bounds of the law”. The CP warned.
