Gombe state government has sensitised stakeholders on Adolecent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) a World Bank assisted project geared at improving second chance education for adolescent girls between aged 10 and 20.
Speaking to news men shortly after the engagement, Dr. Amina Abdul, Gombe State Project Coordinator, AGILE said the initiative is geared towards improving learning of girls, hence the need to sensitise all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
She said several studies have revealed that adolescent girls are generally faced with challenges that prevent them from accessing and completing secondary education due to socio-cultural, financial constraints, and infrastructural deficits in Nigeria.
Abdul said, the participants were school principals because school is their area of concern and operations.
“Without the key stakeholders, we cannot successfully implement the project.
“Therefore we invited them here to sensitise them on what the project is all about and also to have their full support and cooperation,” she explained.
In her remark, chairperson steering Committee Agile Dr. Aishatu Maigari Commissioner of Education Gombe, said that, governor Inuwa Yahaya has provided the needed mechanism required for the project.
She said the stakeholder’s workshop is one of the sustainability drive because they have talked to the principals whom are the major stakeholders in the schools.
She further said, they will hold a similar engagement with traditional and religious leaders to sensitise them about the project.
