The Jigawa State Government has approved the sum of N3.5billion to support 30,000 farmers mostly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commissioner for Information Youth Sports and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of state executive Council meeting.
Hon. Sagir explained that the aim is to support 30,000 poor and vulnerable groups under the FADAMA phase IV and V as presented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural resources to boost food security and improve livelihood.
“Government in collaboration with World Bank seeks to mitigate these challenges and ensure that farmers are able to recover and sustain their livelihoods”. He added.
Hotpen reports that, Jigawa State Governor, Umar A. Namadi promised to support over 30,000 poor and vulnerable before the end of 2024.
He emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers in overcoming the economic setbacks brought about by the pandemic.
The Commissioner reiterated government’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of its citizens and ensuring farmers continued with their productivity amidst ongoing global uncertainties.
According to him the initiative is expected not to only mitigate the immediate impact of the pandemic but also contribute to long-term agricultural sustainability and economic growth within the state.
Said he:-“Under the programme farmers were supported with agricultural inputs and assets to vulnerable especially at rural communities”.
