No fewer than 30 people lost their lives, 9,366 people displaced, 7,379 hectares of land submerged, 4,699 houses affected by flood in Jigawa state.
Hotpen reports that, the flood has affected over 90 communities across the state, NIMET had earlier predicted that Jigawa is among the states that would experience severe flooding in 18 local government areas of the state.
The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Haruna Mairiga, said government is assisting the affected victims with thousands of bags of rice, maize, millet, gari, and medication in various IDP’s.
Dr. Mairiga explained that 2 children died and others were infected with diarrhea at ‘Yanduna Primary School IDP in Miga local government, and Auyo local government, said local government emergency committees are working day and night in assisting the victims.
Azumi Garba Tsakuwawa, one of the affected victims said, they spent three days in one of the government schools since when the flood sent them out from their homes, saying they were provided with food items by SEMA.
Azumi explained that their children have been sick of fever and other diseases, thanks the state government for its prompt action and advised for more assistant from the officials.
The State Emergency Management Agency is working 24/7 conducting survey on the effect caused by the ravaging flood across the state for quick response to the affected victims.
