Determined to produce high quality and prospective students for admission into various universities and other institutions, Jigawa state government has established two colleges of remedial and advanced studies.
The Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Abbas A. Abbas disclosed this in his open remarks on the occasion of training of facilitators for the remedial programme held at Ahmadu Bello Hall, State Secretariat Dutse, Jigawa state.
Dr. Abbas explained that the two established colleges of remedial and advanced studies are of Sule Lamido University (SLU) and Jigawa state college of art and remedial studies JICORAS Babura, saying the essence of the facilitator’s training program is to train them on modern techniques towards achieving better performance in the private NECO and WAEC scheduled for Nov/Dec. 2024.
The Executive Secretary stated further that a total number of four academic papers will be presented by professionals on how best the Remedial students could answer the private external examination, adding that from 2019-2024 a remarkable percentage improvement has been recorded by students who sat for the NECO examination.
He said:- “Remedial program is one of the 6 programs run by the Agency as enshrined by the Law No. 6 of 2008 Vol.1 page 2 subsection 3 (c) to organize Remedial Programme, Extra Mural and Continuing Education to afford Adult and Youths such as school leavers, workers, housewives, and others to further their education.”
According to Dr. Abbas remedial is run for nine consecutive months and there are 81 centers in the state three in each of the local government, noted that the state government pays allowances of the facilitators and coordinators monthly, instructional materials are also provided, monitoring of the program is carried out by the staff of the agency.
Speaking, State deputy governor, Engr. Aminu Usman said the importance of education cannot be over emphasized in the society, describing education as one of the top priorities of Governor Namadi’s 12 point agenda for Greater Jigawa.
The deputy governor was represented by the Special Adviser on Adult Education, Garba Makama Gwaram maintained that there is need to support Governor Namadi ‘s efforts to revamp the education sector, commended the governor for earmarking the largest share to the educational development.
