In what observers have described as a major political realignment in Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections, two prominent and influential members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ahmed Isah Dutse, popularly known as Barayan Dutse, and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Jigawa State, Justice Tijjani Inuwa Dutse, have officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The duo, alongside thousands of their supporters, formally joined the ADC on Wednesday during a well-attended ceremony held at the party’s State Headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
The high-profile event attracted a large gathering of party faithful, political stakeholders, youth groups, women supporters, and ADC executives from across the seven Local Government Areas of the Dutse Emirate. Also in attendance were representatives of Distinguished Senator Sabo Mohammed Nakudu, former Chairmen of Dutse Local Government, Hon. Zubairu Abaya, and Hon. Bala Usman Chamo, as well as several party leaders and well-wishers from different parts of the state.
At the ceremony, the defectors were officially presented with ADC membership cards, symbolizing their formal integration into the party. Political analysts and observers believe the development will significantly strengthen the ADC’s political structure and grassroots influence in Jigawa State, particularly within the Dutse Emirate.
Speaking on behalf of the new members and their supporters, Alhaji Ahmed Isah Dutse, Barayan Dutse, explained that his decision to leave the PDP came after deep reflection and careful political assessment.
According to him, his experience in another political party exposed him to numerous challenges and disappointments, compelling him to critically evaluate which political platform genuinely aligns with his beliefs, aspirations, and political ideology.
He described the ADC as a party founded on justice, fairness, human dignity, and equal opportunity, adding that the party reflects his personal vision and political principles.
Barayan Dutse further called on youths and women across Jigawa State to actively participate in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that they remain the backbone of electoral success at all levels.
He also urged eligible voters who are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and complete their registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do so promptly in order to exercise their constitutional right to elect leaders of their choice.
In a passionate appeal, the former PDP stalwart invited politicians and supporters who felt unfairly treated during party primary elections in their respective political parties to join the ADC, assuring them of justice, equity, fairness, and equal treatment within the party structure.
The event ended with jubilation among supporters, chants of solidarity, and renewed optimism among ADC members as the party continues to expand its political presence across Jigawa State ahead of the next electoral cycle.
