The Bauchi State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdullahi Maigari, has assured party members and supporters that the party remains legally recognised and fully operational despite a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Bauchi, Maigari said the party’s legal team had already filed an appeal against the judgment on the directive of the National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and the National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe.
He expressed optimism that the Court of Appeal would overturn the decision, describing the ruling as part of an ongoing legal process.
According to him, the judgment followed an application by the Peace Movement Party and did not constitute an appeal against the order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC or a substantive challenge to the party’s legal status.
Maigari maintained that the NDC had fulfilled all constitutional and legal obligations since its registration, including establishing party structures nationwide, conducting congresses and conventions, participating in INEC activities and concluding its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged members and supporters to remain calm, united and focused, advising them not to be swayed by misinformation or political intimidation.
The chairman stressed that the party remained committed to deepening democracy and providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative.
He also commended Dickson, Zuwoghe and the party’s Zonal Chairman, Dr. Danlami Arabs, for their steadfast leadership during the legal challenge, while thanking Bauchi residents for their continued support and confidence in the party’s vision ahead of the 2027 elections.
