The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has affirmed Comrade Hauwa Sani Zaharaddeen and Aminu Umar Shuwajo as the substantive Secretaries of Kano and Jigawa Councils.
Hotpen reports that, the comfirmation of Hauwa Zahradeen was a sequel to the removal of former Secretary Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, while Shuwajo’s confirmation was as a result of voluntary resignation of Aisha Ahmed as Council Secretary Jigawa NUJ.

The duo were sworn in during the NEC meeting held in Dutse, Jigawa State capital
In his address after the swearing-in, NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, urged the new secretaries of the Kano and Jigawa Councils to carry out their duties strictly in line with the NUJ Constitution.
He further encouraged them to use their experience to strengthen the union and advance journalism in their respective councils.

Comrade Yahya congratulated them on their election and welcomed them as new NEC members.

In their separate remarks, both Comrade Hauwa Zaharaddeen and Comrade Aminu Shuwajo expressed gratitude to the NUJ National President and the entire NEC.
They pledged to work closely with their members to develop the union and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting its values.
Similarly, during the meeting, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, Kano Council Chairman was officially recognized for his immense contributions to the union and the hospitality he has consistently extended to NEC members.
In his response, Comrade Dederi expressed appreciation to the NUJ national leadership and promised to redouble his efforts in serving the union.
He also congratulated the Jigawa Council for successfully hosting the NEC meeting, describing it as a remarkable achievement to bring together the union’s leadership to deliberate on issues affecting both the union and the nation.
