The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, has said a viral video in which he expressed support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was recorded when he was still in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gwamna said the video was recorded when Atiku was the PDP presidential candidate and that his comments at the time reflected his party affiliation.
He said the footage is now being circulated out of context to create a false impression about his current political stand.
“I have seen the video and I know it. But it was recorded when I was in the PDP, before Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared his intention to contest.
“At that time, we were in the PDP and we supported Atiku Abubakar. But after I moved to the APC, I became the coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima campaign in 2023. We supported Tinubu and left Atiku,” he said.
Gwamna said the resurfacing of the video should be seen within the context of his defection from the PDP to the APC.
He alleged that some politicians were recycling old videos to cause confusion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Social media has made it easier for old political statements to resurface and be presented as recent. This video is being circulated now without its context or date. It was done for a political purpose. I urge our supporters and the people of Gombe to disregard it,” he said.
He appealed to APC members, his supporters and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supporters not to allow the video to create division in the party.
Gwamna urged the public to verify the date and context of political materials before sharing them.
