The Medical Director of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Dawanau, Kano, Prof. Auwalu Sani Salihu led the hospital’s management team on a courtesy visit to Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano.
The delegation was received by the Acting President of MAAUN, Prof. Ibrahim Alhaji, on behalf of the Founder, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, alongside other top management staff of the university.
In his address, Prof. Auwalu Sani Salihu said the visit was to seek areas of mutual collaboration, particularly in mental health awareness, student counseling, internship and clinical placements for students of Nursing, Psychology, Public Health and Medical Laboratory, as well as joint research and community service.
He commended the university for its outstanding contributions to education and raised concerns over the rising cases of drug abuse, depression and anxiety among youths, noting that partnership with FNPH Dawanau will help address these challenges.
Responding, the Acting President, Prof. Ibrahim Alhaji, appreciated the Medical Director for the visit. He noted that while the university already has a policy on student mental health, the collaboration with FNPH will provide additional strategies to support students.
Prof. Ibrahim Alhaji added that MAAUN has signed over 200 MoUs with institutions across the world and that an MoU with FNPH is welcome. He assured that the draft MoU will be reviewed, strengthened, and made workable — not just to be signed and kept aside. He further disclosed that the Founder has been briefed and the formal MoU signing will be scheduled later, insha Allah.
