Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi FCA, popularly known as Dan Modi, returned from his two weeks vacation on Wednesday, the 23rd of September, 2026 and within four days did four things that make one sit back, think and analyse.
One: On Thursday 24th September, 2026, he graced the Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference in Enugu State. This is commendable. The media is the mirror of society and a critical partner in governance. Government and the media must work as partners in progress for democracy to thrive. His presence shows he understands this vital relationship.
Two: He attended the launch of Nigeria’s AgriConnect Compact in Ibadan, Oyo State, where agricultural transformation was discussed. This is very paramount because Jigawa is an agrarian state. Farming, fishing and animal rearing remain our main occupation.
Jigawa today is first in the cultivation of rice, sesame, hibiscus, millet, wheat, groundnut, beans and other crops. Prices of grains and cash crops are a bit stable due to the interest of our people and the commitment of the state government. For this, we say Alhamdulillah.
At the AgriConnect Compact launch a national initiative supported by the World Bank Group, IITA, CGIAR and other partners, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Minister of Agriculture Senator Abubakar Kyari, Governor Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders in attendance, Governor Namadi highlighted Jigawa’s progress.
He noted Jigawa’s leading position in rice, sesame, hibiscus and gum arabic production, the engagement of over 1,500 extension agents across 27 LGAs, acquisition of over 400 tractors and establishment of 60 agricultural service centres to boost mechanisation and food security.
Three: On Saturday 26th September, 2026, at the Banquet Hall, Government House Dutse, he hosted a high-level interactive engagement with the Jigawa Academic Forum, bringing together over 1,000 academics from 48 tertiary institutions. The forum, attended by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’eed Ahmad, discussed education, research and the advancement of Jigawa State.
Four: The fourth day was dedicated to Mu’amalat, receiving visitors,going on visitations to greet, consoling and condoling with people. This is true leadership close to the people.
Now these four actions within four days will make us in the opposition ponder: What is driving Dan Modi?
Is it a political strategy for 2027 — the 4+4 agenda? Is it a sincere effort to serve the people as he swore an oath to do? Is it wisdom and prudent leadership? Or is it all of the above?
If he continues this path with the guidance of Almighty Allah, Dan Modi is writing his name in gold in Jigawa’s history, and posterity will do him justice. Four days after vacation, four great deeds. 4 of the days plus (+) another 4 of the deeds. 4+4, what the equation will give you?
