HOTPEN – The hardship faced by university lecturers in the country is no longer a news to the general public.
Despite their hardship, some group of academicians across 30 higher institutions of learning in Nigeria have endorsed the candidature of Malam Umar Namadi as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Jigawa state in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.
The decision of the Association of University Dons was disclosed when they visited the APC gubernatorial candidate who doubles as the incumbent Deputy Governor, Umar Namadi Danmodi.
According to Hotpen, the Dons decision to support the APC candidate came barely one week after their resumption from an 8 month old strike without salary which the APC led administration had thrown them into.
Hotpen explained that the lecturers suspended the strike due to a positive negotiation but despite the negotiations, the lecturers were only paid half salary for the month of October.
Professor Abdullahi Birniwa who stood for the chairman of the event gave his assurances to l the APC gubernatorial flagbearer that the academicians will give their best of support to ensure his victory comes 2023.
Professor Birniwa noted that the academic community have resolved to help the new government to come on board in 2023, with a written document that will further give a clear direction towards better socio-economic development of the state.
According to him, with the level of the APC’s governorship candidate’s popularity and acceptability amongst the teaming electorates in the state, victory is almost guaranteed.
The event was held in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital over the weekend and was attended by three hundred and fifty (350) lecturers of Jigawa extraction from across Universities in Nigeria, APC stalwarts and other party’s supporters across the state.
Responding to the Academicians, the APC Gubernatorial Candidate Alhaji Umar Namadi assured them, that his administration will consider academician in such a way that all educationist will contribute their quarter in improving the level of education in Jigawa.
Danmodi, who is seeing visibly highly overwhelmed by their endorsement of his candidature, he noted makes him have confidence in winning the election come 2023 as the Jigawa state governor.
He reiterated his commitment to continue with the good work his successor have done in the state.
