A member Representing Toro/Jama’a constituency in Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Tukur Ibrahim has moved a motion calling on Bauchi state government to name the Department of Agricultural Colleges or Senate Building of the Bauchi State University Gadau after Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro.
Leading debate on the motion, Honorable Tukur Ibrahim explained that he comes up with the motion considering the achievements of Professor Bogoro, adding Professor Bogoro has exemplify sterling leadership qualities and integrity through his actions which have earned him and his team remarkable achievements.
Honorable Tukur added that institutions such as Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education Kanagere, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi and Bauchi State University Gadau have all benefited immensely from TETFUND projects courtesy of Professor Bogoro.
The member also said that between 2016-2016 when Professor Bogoro was first appointed, over 10,000 academic staff from various higher institutions across the country were sponsors to undergo masters and PhD programmes, equipped schools’ laboratories and built structures in 71 Federal and State Universities, 51 Federal and State Polytechnic and 61 Federal and State colleges of education.
Hon. Tukur Ibrahim therefore opined that honour should be given to whom honour is due, hence the need to consider the naming of the Division of Agricultural Colleges or the Senate Building of the Bauchi State University Gadau to Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro Division of Agricultural Colleges or Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro Senate Building for his contribution to educational development of the State and the Nation as a whole.
In his remarks Speaker Rt. Honorable Abubakar Y Suleiman commended the Member for moving the important motion, saying Professor Bogoro deserves the immortalization for his numerous contributions to the State and the Country at large.
However, Minority Leader Honorable. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo observed that since the state government has brought an executive bill to the house to re-name the state university after Late Sa’adu Zungur and the bill is under consideration, there is no need of asking the state government to name any building in the university after Bogoro because that lower belongs to the governing council of the university.
He therefore suggested that the Senate of the university should be advised to name the said buildings after Professor Bogoro or the Honourable House modify the motion to find other places to be named after the Professor.
According to Honorable Bobbo the motion is in order and Professor Bogoro deserves the honour but to avoid confusion the motion should be modified.
Responding Honorable Tukur Ibrahim clarified that he has contacted the Vice Chancellor of the University before coming up with the motion, maintaining that the motion should not be modified.
After debate for a while, Speaker Abubakar Y Suleiman suggests that since the University is under State Government, the Honourable House should advise the State Government to advise the State University to name the building after the Professor.
The Honourable House unanimously adopted the motion.
