Al-Ma’Arif College of Health Sciences and Technology Potiskum, Yobe State has inaugurated its pioneer 17-member governing council.
Those inaugurated are Alhaji Zarami Geidam- Chairman, Alhaji Sani Dumbulwa- Vice Chairman, Usman Alhaji Saleh- Secretary. Others include Dr Hauwa Larai Goni from the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Hajiya Kaka Alkali Ministry of Higher education, Dr Hamza Garba Provost, Alhaji Ibrahim Alkali Fika Emirate, Alhaji Mohammed Gambo Patiskum Emirate,
Others are Alhaji Muqaddas Ayuba Board of Directors, Aliyu Muhammad Ibrahim Board of Directors, Sheikh Muktar Umar Religious Community Izala, Sheikh Muktari Kabir religious community Tijjaniya, Sheikh Bukhari Aliyu religious community Izala, Yusuf Mohammed Jajere, Bakura Adamu and Ayuba Sabo respectively.
The Vice-Chairman Board of Directors and Registrar of the College, Usman Alhaji Saleh in his welcome address read the brief history of the College.
Saleh stated that due process was followed before establishing the School “we initially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Yobe State Ministry of Health and Human Services, all regulatory bodies, engaged consultants in Kano who guided us throughout the journey and we visited various sister institutions and other stakeholders”.
Also speaking at the inauguration is the Provost of the College, Dr Hamza Garba, who gave a brief about the institution’s courses, which includes community health, pharmacy technician, medical laboratory technician, environmental health services, dispensary, health information. Others are dental surgery technician/dental technology, X-ray, Orthopedic, remedial programme among others.
“We’re starting with the training of middle cadre programmes for manpower development based on the survey conducted in the state.”
In his keynote address, the Chairman Board of Directors of Al-Ma’Arif College of Health Sciences and Technology Potiskum, Sheikh Dr Ibrahim Abdullahi Sani Rijiyan Lemo said the council members are expected to approve financial guidelines of the college, determine the terms and conditions of appointment of the head of departments and principal officers and monitor the performances of the institutions.
He explained that the reason for the establishment of the College in Potiskum town of Yobe State Northeast is to compliment the post insurgency recovery efforts of the government in reviving the education sector.
“Also the area is densely populated, so this will ease the educational challenges and give the Youths better education. We will ensure that good thing happen, we will also shape their character and ensure that they because responsible citizens”.
Lemo charged the inaugurated members to ensure that good things happen in the college assuring that the community members too will be fully involved in steering the affairs of the college” we have nothing to hide in running the institution.
He revealed that 98 per cent of the college programmes have been accredited by the regulatory bodies.
The Governing Council members were all presented with instruments of office and ad-hoc Committees were also constituted to enhance the smooth take up of the programmes in the college.
The Council members were taken around the school infrastructure, facilities like the laboratories, ICT centre, sports field, classes, lecture halls, auditorium, hall centre, common room, library, hostel among others too numerous to mention in this time.
