The Umaru Shinkafi Legacy Foundation Thursday distributed food items to 500 vulnerable households in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries in Zurmi, the Coordinator of the foundation in the area, Aliyu Sani said the gesture was aimed at supporting vulnerable households to reduce economic hardship.
Our correspondent gathered that the beneficiaries include 500 poor and vulnerable households, females, orphans, people with disabilities and aged persons.
According to him, the food items comprised rice, millet, maize and cooking oil.
He further hinted that each household received 50kg bag of rice, packages of maize and millet and one galoon of cooking oil.
Speaking earlier, the Sole Administrator of Zurmi Local Council, Alhaji Aminu Atiku Zurmi represented by the Deputy Director of the Local government on Religious Affairs MalamYusuf Garba described the gesture as timely .
“The gesture would go along way in reducing socioeconomic hardship among the vulnerable groups considering the hike price of essential goods and food scarcity in the country.
know Zurmi is one of the affected LGAs affected by insecurity, we have many families affected by banditry activities who needed urgent intervention.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Ummaru Mai’injin and Suwaiba Bature appreciated the effort of the foundation for the gesture accorded to them.
“We appreciate this timely support, we are appealing to government at all levels and well meaning individuals to extend their support to people in the rural communities.” They equally stated.
