The National Youths Service Corps members in Zamfara State on Saturday joined their colleagues nationwide to observe the NYSC National Environmental Sanitation day by embarking on a massive clean-up exercise across the state.
Speaking during the formal flag-off of the programme at the Central Motor Park in Gusau Local Government Area, the State Coordinator, Alhaji Abdulsalam Alhassan said the environmental sanitation exercise is in keeping with the mission of the scheme in community development.
The Coordinator who was represented by the Assistant Director in charge of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), Mrs Maryam Shehu observed that most illnesses in the society are as a result of untidy environment.
He disclosed that the exercise is not only aimed at a total clean-up of the Motor Park and environs but also to promote healthy practices among the drivers and passengers.
Alhaji Alhassan thanked the management of the park for their cooperation towards the success of the programme as well as the corps members for their huge turnout.
In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mallam Haruna Jangebe thanked the NYSC for the choice of the park for the programme.
He recalled the long standing relationship the NURTW has with the scheme during orientation activities and charged the corps members to feel free to carry out their duties in the park.
An highlight of the programme was the joint clean-up demonstration by the NYSC and NURTW officials.
