The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) disclosed that it has rescued no fewer than 16, 277 victims of human trafficking in the last 18 years.
The Director General of NAPTIP, Senator Bashir Garba Muhammad disclosed this at the official inauguration of the Jigawa State task force on human trafficking, said “since the creation of the agency in 2003 it succeeded to rescued 16,277 victims of human trafficking across the country”. He added.
Senator Bashir explained that out of the number 14,474 person were Nigeriains and 172 victims are from Jigawa State.
His words:- “We were able to rescued 16,277 human trafficking victims out of which 14,474 are Nigeriains, the problem of human trafficking has become a national and international concern especially with the large number of Nigeriains trapped in sexual and labour exploitation in various Africans and European countries”.
The agency according to him is collaborating with state Governors to strengthen joint effort to stem the evils of human trafficking and irrigular migration in the country.
Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State while inaugurating the committee promised to provide all the necessary support to address human trafficking in the state.
