Our correspondent reported that the Katarko Bridge which in 2014 was bombed by the Boko Haram fighters which caused the interruption of the highway, which was destroyed again by the torrential rains last Sunday.
Until today, the Katarko bridge is one of the main bridges that connect the two local governments most affected by the Boko Haram conflict (Gujba and Gulani) in Yobe state, which also connects Yobe state with southern Borno state, Gombe state, Adamawa and Taraba.
Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni visited this bridge on Tuesday, where he condoled with the people of the area over the disaster of the flood that caused the bridge to be cut off and caused heavy losses in the area.
Governor Buni ordered the Ministry of Works to immediately repair the bridge because of its importance in economic development for the people of the state and neighboring states.
“Do your best to ensure that this road is reconnected for the benefit of the people of this area as soon as possible.”
“The Katarko road that connects the states of Yobe and Borno and other neighboring states is very important for us especially, repairing the bridge as soon as possible will help especially in improving the security in the state.” said the Governor.
On his part, the Director of Engineering in the Yobe State Ministry of Works, Engr. Usman Ahmed announced that the ministry has worked hard day and night to implement the instructions given by the governor to the ministry and try to see that the bridge is repaired so that it can continue to be used as usual.
