The Zamfara state governorship candidate in 2023 election under Peoples Democratic Party Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare has accused state Anti thuggery committee for attacking his wife with her entourage in Gusau the state capital.
He made the accusation at a press conference in his residence Friday.
“Around 11:30 pm on Thursday, 23/2/2023, my motorcade conveying my wife and her entourage was ambushed by a state-sponsored militia disguised as Anti Thuggery Committee armed to the teeth with guns and other fatal weapons besides A. A Rano filling station, off Sani Abacha way, solely aimed to assassinate me for political reasons”. He said.
He changed that during the attack, two of his police security escort, an inspector, and a sergeant alongside five other civilians were shot and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center Gusau.
Dr. Dauda called on the Inspector General of Police, the DSS, and the International community to look into the illegal activities of the Zamfara Anti thuggery committee that bear illicit firearms to destabilize the frail security of the State on the eve of the presidential and National elections.
He also call on the Inspector General of the police and all other law enforcement agencies to conduct a proper and holistic investigation of this matter and prosecute whoever is found responsible for this attack on innocent persons, regardless of his status or position in government.
“I want to call on the general public, our party supporters, and well-wishers to be law abiding and remain vigilant against those who are hellbent on retaining power at all costs. The blood of any civilian is not worth my political ambition”. Dauda said
Responding to the allegation, the state chairman of the Anti thuggery committee Bello Mohammed Bakyasuwa described the allegation as malicious and calculated attempt to damage the image of the state government under the leadership of governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
According to him, Dr. Dauda’s wife entourage attacked his operatives while on surveillance at around 12:00am where their two operatives sustained gunshots, one vehicle damaged and operational Hillox vehicle shot.
Bakyasuwa pointed out that his committee will remain resolute to contain any forms of thuggery, drugs abuse and other related offences among people regardless of any political party inclination.
