The Bauchi State Project Management Unit of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape ACReSAL project is to intervene at the yankari Game Reserve in terms of renovations and restoration of degraded lands in an effort to achieving the project development objectives of the project.
This was made known by the State Project Coordinator, Dr Ibrahim Kabir MNES, FSEPH, FIICA, MISPON (Maga Yakin Cheledi) in an interaction with the management of ministry of Culture and Tourism, management of the reserve during an inspection visit to the Game Reserve.
Dr Kabir, added that the intervention will fall under component C of Institutional Strengthening will come in two phases of short and long terms.
Procurement of Safari vehicles, renovation of accommodation and security outposts, solarization of the game reserve, delineation of the reserve area as well as capacity building of the entire staff and provision of needed gadgets at the game reserve form part of short term activities of the intervention.
Earth Dam construction, access road to the historical marshal caves and habitat restoration to ensure conservation of degraded lands in the reserve were considered as the long term
He emphasized that ACReSAL, World Bank project deals with justification and deliverables, urged the team to be prudent, trustworthy and focus on the implementation of the proposed projects.
Commenting, the Honourable Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Asma’u A. Giade commended the State Project Coordinator for bringing this intervention to the game reserve and applauded the entire team, saying the intervention is timely and will go along way in solving most of the reserve’s challenges of encroachment and degradation of lands among others, she further added that it will improve the revenue generation of the state.
Both the Bauchi SPMU team and that of Tourism went round the game reserve and inspected the dilapidated state of the Charlets, collapsed bridge to the 59 historic marshal caves, security outposts scattered around and the Mawulgo warm spring among others.
Earlier yesterday, the State Project Management Unit held an interactive meeting with the Honourable commissioner, Ministry of Culture and Tourism alongside the permanent secretary and the General Manager of the Game Reserve towards the preparation of the inspection visit to Yankari Games Reserve, located in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the State.
The entourage include, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment who is also the Chairman Technical Committee of the project, others are the Permanent Secretary Ministry Culture and Tourism, Directors of Forestry and Tourism, officers from the PFMU as well as officers of the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) Bauchi ACReSAL.
