An Islamic cleric Associate Professor,Bashir Aliyu have called for an establishment of endowment fund that will take care of Women in the times of Divorce in the Society, as women were made to no option of taking care after Divorce in some society which is a social problem.
The Islamic cleric is speaking at a 17th Annual Ramadan lecture organized by Nigerian Television Authority,(NTA) Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria,(FRCN) Voice of Nigeria (VON) and National Broadcasting Commission,( NBC)in Kaduna with the topic Divorce and it’s consequences.
The establishment of the endowment fund will take care up, women during Divorce, instead of going to Court to seek some of her legal responsibility, after marriage,now the women will go to that Endowment fund foundation,who will ensure that her right is given to her as at when due which she will use to take care of the Children after the Divorce.
The Cleric explained that some right of Women were been deny after Marriage brook up,and it becomes difficulty to get her right for taking care of their children, with this Endowment fund foundation,the foundation will take all majors to ensure that the Husband most ensure giving her right is given timely out going to court which can be deficult to women,and spending Money in the court for the process of getting her right.
The Cleric further said, Marriage is an important institution that needs to be taking serious, not just waking up and said l Divorce you without looking at the consequences,because Marriage enable society to have Legal Children,that have parental take care.
Associates Professor,Aliyu maintained that “Marriage is proscribed by Allah, which he read from the Holy Quran, Chapter 30 Verse 21, which Allah said “is among his sign that he created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest in them,and He put between you love and compassion,most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect.
“Islam treats divorce as something permitted but not laudable hence, the holy book of Muslims- the Quran provides for reconciliation, through negotiated settlements between spouses themselves or the use of arbitrators from their families.
Divorce rate is a global phenomenon. The United Nations Gender Inequality Index, GNI, Divorce rate by country, 2023, rated the Maldives on top of the chart. In Africa, Liberia, Central Africa Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Libya, Egypt and Algeria are countries with 40 per cent divorce rate.
The lslamic Cleric explained that “in Sri- Lanka has the lowest rate of divorce at 0.15 per cent of 1000 people, followed by Vietnam and Guatemala, with 0.2 per cent per 1000 residents. Saint Vincent and Grenadines, as well as South Africa were in the lower chart of the world population review on the divorce rate.
In his goodwill message the Director General National Broadcasting Commission ( NBC) Mallam Balarabe Shehu lllela, thanks the Cleric for the choice of the topic which he described as timely considering the alarming rate of Divorce in our Society called on Couple to be patient with one another as marriage is total way of life.
