Virtually all staff and students of the Federal College of Education (Technical),Bichi,Kano State, do not carry authorized Identification Cards to facilitate their easy movement.
The Chairman of the college’s chapter of the Colleges of Education Staff Union(COEASU), Dr Hussaini Yahaya Peni, disclosed this while addressing Newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre,Kano, on Wednesday.
Dr Peni described the situation as embarrassing for students and staff of such an esteemed academic Institution to be moving around without valid ID cards.
He said the absence of the document had subjected them to a lot of intimidation and harassments, especially in public places, over the years.
The Chairman said the union also viewed the situation as part of the decay at the college, which it had been fighting to correct, over time.
Other prevailing problems as enumerated by COAESU included non-release of TETfund- approved funds for different programmes/activities including teaching practices intervention by the college.
He said the college also refused to release book development funds,Journal interventions,as well as academic staff training and development.
Others,Dr Peni said, were non-payment of allowances from the mainstream and affiliate programmes( Degree directorate and centre for continuing education).
The union then urged the relevant stakeholders” charged with the responsibility of sanitizing corrupt institutions and individuals to intervene to save our citadel of learning from total collapse.”
