APC Group Wants North Central To Produce Reps’ Speaker
By Our Correspondent
A support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the auspices of the APC Patriotic People’s Forum has asked the party to concede the position of the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives to the North Central zone.
The group demanded that the office be micro- zoned to Kwara State because it is the bridge between the North and the South.
At a news conference in Abuja yesterday, the group’s acting director-general, Prof. Husseini Garbo-Dokko, prayed for a concession for the North Central and Kwara State to take the slot
So far, only Hon. Abdulraheem Tunji Olawuyi is the only one from Kwara State to have indicated interest in the office with his legislative agenda as Power, Education, Agriculture, Security, Employment (PEASE).
The incumbent deputy speaker of the Green Chamber, Hon. Wase from Plateau State is also seeking the office.
He said the party must demonstrate to Nigerians a process whose outcome will give a sense of belonging to all.
Garbo-Dokko said, “We wish to use this medium to solicit for the leadership of the ruling party to support the zoning of speakership position to the North Central going by the roles the zone played in the just-concluded general elections.
“As a formidable forum, Patriotic Peoples Forum (PPF), we are lending our voice in support of ayoung, promising, vibrant and true democrats in person of Hon. Olawuyi.
“Even though APC leadership is yet to zone the position of Senate President and Speaker to the South East and North Central respectively, there is need to uphold the same dispositions in the interest of national unity and cohesion.
“Above all, the 10th Assembly needs someone whose humility and interpersonal relationship with fellow colleagues is equal to none. This is because humility leads to unity, and unity leads to peace.
“The task really needs a parliamentarian that will deliver as at when due and should be willing and determined to get work accomplished.
“We therefore please beg that the 10th House of Representatives’ members should join our ‘PEASE’ agenda code, to complement the ‘RENEWED HOPE’ of Mr President-elect,” he said.
He said since the Tinubu Presidency has inspired positive hope among Nigerians, there was the need to be introspective about the leadership of the National Assembly.
