Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has on Friday flagged-off the disbursement of palliatives and cash as palliatives measures to cushion the untold hardship as a result of subsidy removal.
Hotpen reports that, the items disbursed includes 47,410 bags of rice, 33,339 cartons of superghatte , 8,303 bag of maize and N1,080,000,000 cash.
Speaking at the occasion held in Gumel emirate, Governor Namadi said, the palliatives was part of temporary measures to reduce the economic hardship ensued as a result of federal government policy on fuel subsidy.
Governor Namadi explained that, “the palliatives is the beginning of series of intervention his government plan to provide, while a permanent and sustainable solution will continue to be put in place, for poverty eradication, jobs creation, growth and development”.
The governor further stated that, a comprehensive and we’ll articulated mechanism for the distribution of the palliatives was put in place, including committees that comprised of political and religious leaders, civil societies, securities and community organizations.
His words:- “Under the framework ” N40 million will be given to each of the 27 local government for distribution to 1000 youth, 1000 Women, 1000 old age and 1,000 physically challenge, we are expecting that 108,000 people will receive N10,000 each”.
“For the food items, it will be shared to each of the 287 political wards, which will also be distributed to polling units according to the number of registered voter there.
“Polling Units with 10 to 100 registered people will receive 5 bags, 1,10 to 150-6 bags, 200-400 ten bags and 500 to above will get 15 bags”.
He also presented the check of N1,080,000,000.00 to the state Commissioner Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara for onward distribution to the targetted beneficiaries of the cash palliatives.
In his speech at the occasion the Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Haruna Mairiga said, all the food items are kept in stores at Ringim, Hadejia, Dutse, Kazaure and Gumel and directed local government chairmen to go to their respective emirate along with committee members to collect their own shares.
