At least four officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have died in a ghastly road accident which also left five other personnel seriously injured in Kano.
It was gathered that the fatal incident which occurred near Kura town along Kano/Zaria highway on Sunday evening involved an 18-passenger Nissan bus, an official vehicle of the service.
The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Command, Abdullahi Labaran, said a total of nine personnel were in the ill-fated vehicle.
Mr Labaran said the bus crashed after one of its tyres suddenly burst.
Also confirming the incident, DSI Nura Musa Yau, spokesman for the Kano State Command of the NIS, revealed that four officers of the service died in the accident and several others were wounded.
“The victims of the accident along other officers were in a long convoy enroute to Abuja after attending a passing out parade ceremony held on Saturday in Kano
“The bodies of those that lost their lives and those critically injured have been taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” he said.
Also, DCI AA Aridegbe, the national PRO of the service said that as a result of the unfortunate incident, all commands and formations are hereby instructed to fly flags at half mast for seven days while three days of mourning should be observed.
