A Non-Governmental Organisation, Ahmed Abubakar Gana foundation, on Monday donated 130 seedlings to Hinna community of Gombe State to promote tree planting and other environmental best practices.
The foundation intervened in Education, Environment, Health, and Empowerment sectors intending to promoting socio-economic development in Gombe state and beyond.
Mr Abubakar Musa, the team leader of the foundation, said that the gesture was aimed at promoting and encouraging residents to preserve the environment and initiate tree planting campaign to reduce factors associated with climate change and global warming.
He said the seedlings would be distributed across public facilities in the community.
Musa said the foundation also donated textbooks to schools for improved quality education.
“The seedlings which include economic trees as Mongo, Guava and neem will protect the environment and provide a source of income.
“If the seedlings are monitored, they will provide the environment healthy be wind breakers and address desertification.
“The books are to be distributed among primary and secondary schools that include; Hinna Primary School, Government Secondary School Hinna and Bello Central Primary School Dadin Kowa,” she explained.
The team leader reiterates the commitment of the foundation in partnering with other stakeholders and development partners in improving the wellbeing of residents in Gombe state.
Musa called for collective efforts in complementing the government’s efforts in all sectors of the economy.
Receiving the items on behalf of the community, Alhaji Idris Ngurkuma, the district head of Hinna applauded the foundation for its foresight to initiate the tree planting exercise and promised to ensure that the seedlings were supervised and monitored after plantation.
He also said that the educational materials would be deployed to the various schools to improve on the teaching and learning process.
Similarly, Alh Umaru Musa, a community leader in Hinna, spoke on behalf of the elders of Hinna Community, also commended the foundation for giving back to the society.
He pledged to support the community leaders in activities that would foster development in Gombe and the country at large.
