Group of armed bandits numbering to hundreds stormed Zurmi town the headquarters of Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state, bunt down four operational vehicles of security operatives in the area.
Resident of the area identified as Malam Musa Aliyu Zurmi confirmed to our Correspondent in a telephone interview Wednesday.
According to him, the bandits invaded the town around 4:00pm on Tuesday carrying heavy weapons and attacked the military base and police divisional headquarters where two operational vehicles of Military and two of the police were burnt to ashes during invasion.
Malam Musa Aliyu Zurmi further revealed that the bandits took over two hours exchanging fire with security operatives which led to burning of four operational vehicles belonging to military and police during encounter.
“As I am speaking to you now, many people in Zurmi town have fled to Dauran and Kaura Namoda to save their lives”. He said
According to him, already troops of military have been reinforced to the area and some of them were in the forest to trace the bandits hideout.
“We are living out of fear of further reprisal attack and these terrorists abducted 10 people during last Monday attack in Zurmi including nursing mother, her husband and baby”. He added
Malam Musa Aliyu Zurmi called on federal government and Zamfara state government to come to their rescue, saying the bandits said, they would continue attacking them no matter the security operatives intervention.
“When these terrorists attacked our town last Monday, to our hearing, they were chanting that Zurmi will be an empty town and they will continue attacking us until everyone leave his ansestral home so we urged authorities concerned to take more proactive steps to mitigate them for peace to thrive.” Said Malam Musa Aliyu Zurmi.
However, all efforts to get response from military under operations Hadarin Daji and Zamfara state police command spokes person Asp Yazeed Abubakar by our correspondent proved abortive as at the time of compiling the report.
