Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State on Friday said palliatives distribution in the state was done in transparent manner for the benefits of citizens irrespective of political affiliation.
Yahaya said this while speaking during palliatives distribution to 130 associations in Gombe on Friday.
He said since the palliatives were to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal in the state, hence the distribution was done in a manner that would ensure inclusiveness.
Represented by his deputy, Manassah Jatau, Yahaya said the distribution which was the second phase of palliatives was inaugurated on Jan. 2 to benefit over 90, 000 beneficiaries.
“The distribution of palliatives in Gombe State was done without political party consideration, because hunger has no party affiliation and that is why we are being transparent.
“Party was not considered, for example in Billiri, Yes the Commissioner is APC but all the two members are PDP and they were all involved.
“This is because hunger has no party affiliation, the way the APC will suffer, the same way Labour Party (members) will suffer once it is hunger,” he said.
On the distribution to groups, the governor said about 130 associations would benefit from the palliatives distribution in the state.
He said that 130 associations out of the 300 that applied for palliatives in the state were considered.
According to him, the remaining 170 associations were not considered after being verified to be not genuine associations, hence they are not qualified for the palliatives under this group.
Yahaya stated that security personnel, journalists, political, religious groups and orphanages and civil society organisations would benefit under this phase of distribution.
Yahaya commended President Bola Tinubu for partnering the state government in efforts to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on citizens.
Speaking shortly after the event, Pastor Solomon Ayanwale, the Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Gombe chapter commended both the Federal and the State Government for considering religious groups as part of beneficiaries.
Ayanwale prayed God to help leaders in the country with the wisdom on how to move the country out of its present hardship.
Also, the Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Gombe State, Alhaji Saleh Danburam also commended the government for the gesture.
Danburam assured the government that the palliatives would reach the targeted beneficiaries under his association.
