The Federal government has called upon to prioritize the establishment of an Agricultural Research Centre in the federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda with a view to collaborate with relevant bodies towards improvement of dry land Agriculture and Livestock development.
The call was made by the Rector of the polytechnic, Engr. Dr Yahaya Muhammad Bande during the 7th combined convocation and 40th anniversary of the polytechnic held at the main campus of the polytechnic Saturday.
According to him, the call was imperative considering the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda is located in an agrarian environment with an immense prospect for contribution to food security of the Country.
According to him, already the management of the Polytechnic under his leadership has constructed and furnished a complete complex for Agricultural Technology.
“This, although coming after 40 years of existence, it is said, its better late than never”. He added.
He further hinted that the Management has provided, since last four years, over 500 staff office tables and executive chairs, office equipment of many different kinds and has provided over 120 new offices to teaching and non-teaching staff.
“This is with a view to create conducive working environment for maximum output.” He said
According to him, staff training and development has been his top priority, as it gives better output for teaching and learning.
“Since last five years, over 30 staff members have been sponsored for PhDs and not fewer than 60 for Masters Degrees and many non teaching staff members have been trained to acquire National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, Degrees or Masters and one is currently undergoing PhD”. He said.
“Our hope is to transform the Polytechnic into a centre of excellence in line with our vision and mission of equipping our students and staff with requisite skilled for technological emancipation and resources that would contribute positively to the sustainable development of Nigeria”. He said
In his speech, Zamfara state governor Dauda Lawal who was represented by his deputy Malam Mani Mumini pledged to give all the necessary support to the polytechnic for it’s smooth operation.
The emir of Kaura Namoda Alh. Sanusi Muhammad congratulated the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda for it’s 7th combined convocation and 40th anniversary, stressing that his emirate will continue given enabling environment to the polytechnic for it’s teaching and learning process.
