Group of Armed Bandits in a fresh attack abducted 55 civilians in Makera Town of Talata Mafara local government area in Zamfara.
The bandits had also killed nine residents in the area during the invasion.
Speaking to our correspondent via telephone interview, resident of the area who narrowly escaped from the attack Malam Musa Lawali Makera stated that the bandits attacked on the community at around 12:00 am on Tuesday.
According to him, the bandits spent over three hours making house to house searching of the residents during the attack.
He explained that those kidnapped were mainly women and children.
“The bandits gathered over 100 residents during house to house searching and later selected those kidnapped and majority of the victims are women and young children”. Malam Musa contended.
He maintained that he narrowly escaped from the attack through jumping on the main fencing of his house.
“When I heard several gunshots approaching our area, I jumped on my fence and run away and as I am talking to you now, we identified 55 people mainly women and young children were kidnapped by these bandits in our community.” He said.
According to him, already the deceased persons have been buried according to Islamic right on Tuesday morning.
He appealed to federal government and Zamfara state government to come to their rescue in the area by deploying more troops and state community protection guards with a view to contain insecurity and restore peace in the area.
“We are appealing to government to come to our aid by deploying security operatives in the area for them to fight against banditry for peace to thrive.” He said.
However several calls made by our correspondent to the state police command public relations officer Asp Yazid Abubakar to verify the report failed as all his lines could not be reached at the time of compiling the report.
