The Kano Refuse Management and Sanitation Board, REMASAB, has disowned hundreds of protesters claiming that they are workers of the sanitation office and that they were not paid 10 months salaries.
Speaking in responds to the protesting claimed Streets Sweepers, the Managing Director of the Board, Amadu Haruna Zago, said, “as per as we are concerned those protesting so-called unpaid Salaries Workers they are aliens to we don’t know them because they are not in our records”.
“When we came in some almost seven months ago, we investigated the actual numbers of workers we have, and at the end of the verification exercise we conducted about 1082 we inherited and we paid them”.
The Managing Director, hinted that before they conducted their verification they ensure that they used their Supervisors and Auditor who uncovered every worker from the streets they are working at, and after do diligence we paid them four months salaries.
He reminded 90 percent of the workers are on casual basis and from messenger to cleaner and up to the Streets Sweepers, we paid them June, July, August and September salaries and we don’t have any problems with anybody”, he added.
However, the Board said that they are ready to pay anybody who turns in as an authentic worker of the place after verification, adding that those who are claiming that they are not paid 10 Months, ask them did NNPP government reached these months they are asking?
The acclaimed unpaid Streets Sweepers gathered at the headquarters of REMASAB, on Tuesday where they called on the Managing Director of the board, Alhaji Ahmad Danzago, to pay their salaries.
The protesters also complained about how dangerous their job is, narrating how some of them have been killed in the course of duty at different locations across Kano City.
