The Northwest University, Sokoto, a private University owned by a former Governor of the state now Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has Saturday inaugurated members of the Governing Council.
In his welcoming address, the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Ahmad Maigari, commended Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for establishing the university.
He informed the gathering that a lot has been achieved in the university as it currently has 350 students studying various courses.
According to him, no institution can progress without a governing council, saying that the Senate or Congress determines what goes around the university.
He called for inputs from the stakeholders to uplift the standards of the university.
The VC added that the composition of the university and its functions are central to its daily running.
The Founder and the Chairman Governing Council of the University, Sen. Aliyu Magataakarda Wamakko, while inaugurating the council, welcomed all members of the governing board and described tertiary education as a yardstick for development.
He used the occasion to congratulate the appointees and called on them to strive hard to achieve the set targets.
He applauded the VC and Registrar for their doggedness, hence taking the university to greater heights.
The founder said that gone are days when students will graduate and wait for government jobs, adding that entrepreneurship courses should be open for students to avail themselves to become self-reliant.
The Members are: Alh. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Vice Chairman of the Council, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Hon. Ahmad Abdullahi Kalambaina, Prof. Musa Garba Mai Tafsir, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, Engr. Faruk Mayana, also an SA Civil Matters to Senator Wamakko, Alh.Bello Abubakar Wamakko, Alh. Abdulkadir Jelani Kalgo, and Alh. Aliyu Attahiru Galadiman Garin Sokoto.
Speaking on behalf of the other members of the council, Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, thanked the Chairman of the Board, while describing him as a leader who always thinks about the progress of the state.
He assured to do their best for the development of the school and appealed to the university’s management to cooperate with them to deliver on their mandate.
Also commenting, Hon.Ahmad Abdullahi Kalambaina explained that when the land was acquired the Senator was always thinking of what to do with it but now the decision was taken to establish the university for the development of the state.
He dedicated his printing company to be printing activities of the university from now to the 2025 year.
Similarly, Prof. Musa Garba Maitasfir spoke on the commitment of the university, to ensuring discipline, human relations, and moderation.
He harped on producing quality graduates who would be self-reliant without waiting for white-collar jobs
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, commended Sen. Wamakko for seeing his dream come true, saying that Wamakko has the undying zeal to move the people to the promised land despite all the glaring odds.
Also contributing, Amb.Sahabi Isah Gada, thanked Sen. Wamakko for supporting education in the state.
In his remarks, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto who was represented by his Deputy, Idris Muhammed Gobir, described Sen. Wamakko as an educational gladiator and supporter in Sokoto State.
He commended him for sponsoring many indigent children to further their education.
He assured of the state government’s support to the university.
An E-library named after the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo was commissioned by Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The University was established in the year 2022.
