Zamfara state government to recruit additional 2, 000 English and science teachers to be recruited under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (Agile), a World Bank supported projects.
The permanent secretary ministry of education, science and technology, Hajia Barira Ibrahim stated this while opening the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (Agile) sensitization meeting with CSOs, NGOs, and other stakeholders in Gusau the state capital Thursday.
According to her, out of the 2, 000 teachers to be recruited, 60 percent are female teachers aimed at improving girl child education and to ensure that every girls have access to basic education system in the state.
She further hinted that Under the AGILE project, a conditional cash transfer to students to cushion hardship has been introduced.
She maintained that the conditional cash transfer to students was aimed to end out of school children and to improve enrollment of children to school.
“Emphasis was also given to science and technology education and entrepreneurship skills for the children to be self employed under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for learning and empowerment (AGILE) project in the state”. She added.
Hajia Barira stated that Zamfara state government through the state ministry of education, science and technology is willing to partner with all the relevant developmental partners to develop education system in the state.
The Deputy Project Coordinator of AGILE initiative in Zamfara state, Dr Salisu Dalhat stated that the main project component of Agile under the World Bank supported project is to Create Safe and Accessible Learning Spaces.
He further pointed out that the Subcomponent of the project is to Creating new safe learning spaces by Construction of 42 new schools, 21 each for JSS and SSS in Zamfara state.
According to him, the subcomponent is to Improving existing infrastructure in secondary schools by Rehabilitation of 441 schools are to receive SIGs according to school enrollment in the state.
