Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has revealed that he will do everything possible to address the perennial flooding causing havoc to some communities in the state.
Speaking at the official launching of Community Revolving Fund (CRF) by ACreSAL Jigawa supported by the World Bank and the government of Jigawa State held in Dabi District of Ringim local government area of the state.
The Governor was represented by Commissioner for Environment, Dr Nura Ibrahim, reiterated the commitment of his administration to bring to an end to the annual flooding causing untold hardship to the communities.
Governor Namadi equally pledged to enforce a lot of measures in controlling flood in vulnerable communities in Jigawa state.
Governor Namadi appealed to the community to utilize the fund they will receive judiciously, in order to benefit from more projects in the near future.
Hotpen reports that, Dabi community is one of the communities in Jigawa state, selected to benefit from the World Bank assisted project.
The fund will be disbursed to assist farmers commit more in order to save the environment from hazards being faced.
Community representative for the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) in Dabi, Mal. Naziru Muhammed, called on federal government, to intervene and rescue the community against flooding.
Naziru explained that the community has been suffering as every rainy season, flood wreck havoc on the community by destroying settlements, farmlands and other properties.
The representative appealed that the situation can be curtailed if the Federal government can dredge the river in the community and link it with Hadejia River Basin Development
Authority.
His words:- “I am appealing for the completion of the bridge that links Ringim with Ajingi and other areas, as it will control the heavy flood we witness.”
In his remarks, the World Bank representative for the project in Nigeria, Mr Ashutosh Raina appealed for proper utilisation of the fund, added that the World Bank in collaboration with the Federal and Jigawa State governments, have committed a lot of resources to the success of the project.
