The Kogi State Government on Sunday announced the successful rescue of some of the students abducted by gunmen from the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
Kingsley Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information in a statement made available to newsmen explained that the rescue operation was carried out by local hunters and security agents, who engaged the kidnappers in a fierce shootout, resulting in the kidnappers escaping with gunshot wounds.
Fanwo said in the ensuing melee the students who were kidnapped were left to run in different directions to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
He revealed that “Many of the students have been rescued and taken to medical facilities for proper attention, while others are still being combed from the forests”.
Sequel to this development, the Kogi state government commended the local hunters and security agents for their bravery and gallantry.
It therefore urged residents to report anyone with gunshot wounds found in their communities to law enforcement agents .
Mr. Fanwo stated that the success of the rescue operation is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Kogi State.
