Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR), a faith-based CSO, has called for robust security arrangements at embarkation points and Hajj camps nationwide as the Hajj airlift commences on Wednesday.
With over 65,000 pilgrims set to travel to Saudi Arabia within the next 30 days, IHR emphasized the need for a coordinated security strategy to address potential security challenges.
In a statement signed by National Coordinator Ibrahim Mohammed, IHR acknowledged previous security efforts but urged the federal government to activate a high-level security surveillance system to monitor and protect pilgrims during outbound and inbound airlift operations.
The organization also advised state Muslim pilgrims’ welfare boards to discourage intending pilgrims from bringing large escorts to Hajj camps, as this increases security risks.
Additionally, IHR recommended that state governments mobilize local vigilantes and volunteers to form a Hajj security team, equipped with internal communication equipment, to complement federal security efforts.
The organization, which has worked closely with security agencies during Hajj operations, appealed to security forces to prevent evil-minded groups from exploiting the Hajj season for sabotage.
By anticipating and preparing for potential security threats, vulnerabilities can be identified and mitigated ahead of time, ensuring a safe and successful Hajj airlift.
