The Bauchi State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a Local government areas consolidated budget of N135 billion, based on the council’s request.
The bill was passed at the plenary, presiding over by the Deputy Speaker Jamilu Umaru Dahiru,
The Chairman House Committee on appropriation Habibu Umar noted that the Committee had series of engagements with critical stakeholders and carefully scrutinized the proposed Consolidated Budget.
The committee recommended that the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the 20 Local Government Councils should organize intensive capacity building programmes for the Local Government Councils budget officers to enable them learn the rudiments of budget preparations.
It also recommended that subsequent capital expenditure estimates of the Local Government Councils should be given the required priority in order to boost the socioeconomic development of the LGAs in line with the best global practice.
The assembly also called on the state government to remodel the Qur’anic/Tsangaya Schools of Bauchi State to integrate foundational literacy, numeracy and vocational training in their curriculum.
This is contained in a motion moved by members representing Madara/Chinade Constituency Dr. Nasiru Ahmad Ala said the physical and psychological factors associated with the learning environment of Tsangaya school have to be determined.
Dr. Nasiru Ala insisted that the remodeling and rebranding of the Quranic/Tsangaya Schools will meet up the changing trend and bridge the gaps toward improving the literacy rate of children as well as reduce the number of out of school children in the entire state.
The lawmaker urged the house to mandate its committee on education to liaise with relevant agencies to come up with the necessary modalities of remodeling the system, proper implementation, supervision, training of proprietors and supervision of the Quranic schools on foundational literacy, numeracy and vocational training.
Similarly, the leader of the state house of assembly Sale Hodi Jibir has presented a motion compelling the need to align the Bauchi State house of assembly standing orders 2017 with the harmonized standard order for the 35 States houses of assembly in Nigeria and to propose necessary amendments to bridge the existing gaps.
