The IQRAA Foundation a non-governmental organisation based in Zamfara, supported by LEAP Africa and the Nigerian Youth Future Fund, envisioning the Nigeria has Saturday launched the Path to Peace project.
Speaking during the launch of the project, the CEO of IQRAA Foundation, Umar Mahmud Umar (Mainan Damba) stated that the Path to Peace” project, is an initiative that embodies their commitment to promoting sustainable peace and conflict resolution in Zamfara State.
He explained that 200 participants will be selected for training and give support including displaced persons for them to have livelihood.
“At IQRAA Foundation, we believe that peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, equality, and opportunity for all.” He stated.
“Our journey towards peace begins with understanding, empathy, and a commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and cooperation”.
According to him, the main Project Goals and Vision is to Empower Communities, through capacity-building workshops and equip community leaders, youth organizations, women’s groups, elder’s forums, and farmers’ associations with the skills and knowledge to resolve conflicts peacefully.
Other aims are, to Promote Dialogue and Reintegration through facilitating dialogue forums that bring together host communities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and returnees, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration and Support Local Initiatives by encouraging and supporting local peacebuilding initiatives, ensuring that the foundation efforts are community-driven and sustainable.
He further hinted Zamfara State, like many regions, has experienced its share of conflicts and challenges.
“We firmly believe that with the right tools and support, our communities can rise above these challenges and build a future rooted in peace and cooperation.
According to him, the foundation will do everything possible by engaging directly with those most affected by conflict, we aim to create an environment where every individual feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute to the peace process.
He further acknowledged that the project would not be possible without the generous support of LEAP Africa and the Nigerian Youth Future Fund.
“Together, we can create a ripple effect that will transform not just our communities, but the entire nation.” He said.
“Let us commit to being ambassadors of peace, advocates of dialogue, and champions of a brighter, more harmonious future”.
He explained that the Foundation is dedicated to promoting peace, education, and community development through various initiatives, we strive to create opportunities and empower individuals to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
He urged every stakeholders, community members, and partners to join the foundation to attain its objectives.
